Open Academy at the Con
The Open Academy's flagship community education program is designed to provide adults and lifelong learners with entertaining, challenging, and inspiring ways to explore the world of music and experience the vibrant culture of Sydney Conservatorium. Our program offers a variety of courses, including Ensemble, Singing, Composition, Instrumental, Music Technology, Jazz, Music Foundations, and Custom courses.

The Open Academy at the Con offers various music workshops and labs to help you prepare for auditions, improve your vocal skills, and learn new instruments like the shakuhachi. Our programs include Opera and Music Theatre Labs, Voice Works, From Studio to Stage, and Beginner Shakuhachi. We also provide school workshops on topics such as world music, gamelan, and lyric writing.

The Open Academy at the Con offers high quality music education opportunities that cater to everyone. Our Tertiary Music Education faculty conducts NESA-accredited workshops, which are ideal for teachers looking for professional development opportunities. Open Academy runs High-School and Pre-Tertiary workshops to support you and your students in your music education journey.

Kids at the Con is a music program for children aged 3-10. It's a non-competitive environment that encourages creativity. The program introduces music through singing, movement, percussion instruments, improvisation, storytelling, and guided listening activities. Classes are held on Saturdays and Wednesdays at the Conservatorium's Macquarie Street buildings.

The Rising Stars program offers a development pathway for musical talent and operates on three levels: Foundation Stars, Emerging Stars, and Premier Stars. The program runs for 14 weeks per semester on Saturdays, with two semesters each year. Entry to the program is by audition only. Play at the Con is a program that offers one-to-one lessons to anyone who wants to learn how to play an instrument or sing. The program provides access to the Conservatorium's expertise and experience in instrumental and vocal teaching, in addition to composition. Whether you're a beginner or looking to refresh your skills, or you have a group that is interested in private courses, we can help you.
